Khapali Wheat — Ancient Emmer Grain
Khapali (Triticum dicoccum), or Emmer wheat, is one of the oldest cultivated grains — domesticated over 10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. In India it has grown for thousands of years across the Deccan, including Maharashtra.
Unlike modern hybrid wheat (introduced in the 1960s Green Revolution), Khapali is a heritage grain — never genetically modified or hybridised. It grows on dry, rocky soil with minimal water and zero chemical inputs.
